Children playing a mighty mitochondria game

Edinburgh International Science Festival - 2018

The MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh wowed the public at the 30th Edinburgh International Science Festival.

The ‘Mighty Mitochondria – Powerhouses of the Cell’ activity invited families to discover how our cells make the energy we need to live. Inspired by a pin ball machine, visitors followed the route of ping pong balls through a 3D model of the mitochondrial energy generation process – expertly created by three MSc Science Communication and Public Engagement placement students! The comic book superhero-inspired stand was brought to life by the creative talents of IGMM graphic designer Craig Nicol and Richard Wroblewski and Peter Hickey from the unit’s scientific workshop.
