Health Data Research UK – Improving our health through data science
Exciting opportunity to join the Board of Health Data Research UK
Harnessing the power of the NHS and associated health data in the UK, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) will develop and apply cutting edge informatics tools and techniques to address the most pressing health research challenges facing patients and the public. Once established, the institute will comprise over 100 scientists and technologists carrying out a rich, varied and integrated programme of research. HDR UK will incorporate and exploit the wealth of UK academic and industry expertise in the field of health data science, to develop analytical tools, methods and expertise, to improve human health.
HDR UK will be an independent, not-for-profit company established through a joint investment led by the MRC, together with the health research departments of England, Scotland and Wales; the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC); the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC); British Heart Foundation; and Wellcome.
As a Non-Executive Director of the Board, you will share the collective responsibility for the effective governance and development of Health Data Research UK, setting its major policies and agreeing the strategic direction of the Institute.
We welcome applicants with a range of UK and international experience from within the public, private and charity sectors. Individuals should have appropriate, senior management level experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Health data science
- Computing/Information technology
- Education, training and people development
- Health service delivery & policy
- Public engagement
- Data governance, ethics and regulation
- Charitable sector
- Legal & corporate governance
- Communications and media
The Board will be chaired by Dr Graham Spittle, CBE. It will meet no fewer than four times a year. Some Directors may be tasked with additional specific duties e.g. Chair of HDR UK’s Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee, or other cross-cutting positions. Directors will also be expected to represent the institute in other forums, including external roles and at public events.
All new Directors will be supported through an induction, followed by on-going support from the Institute’s executive team and partners.
These roles are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
