The Fund for International Collaboration

The Fund for International Collaboration (FIC) aims to enhance the UK’s excellence in research and innovation through global engagement. The FIC focuses on bilateral and multilateral partnerships with global research and development (R&D) leaders. The FIC is administered by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The fund was first announced in the UK government’s Industrial Strategy White Paper in November 2017 with funding of £110 million. In January 2019 UKRI published a press release with information about the first FIC calls. The UK government also published a press release about the FIC.

The MRC and the FIC

The MRC are involved in a number of FIC calls and initiatives supporting international research collaborations. These calls will be run in collaboration with a range of research funding organisations from countries outside the UK. In some cases the calls will also be in collaboration with other councils within UK Research and Innovation. The scientific areas and countries covered by each initiative will be specified in the call documents.

Current and future funding opportunities

Other MRC FIC funding opportunities will be announced in due course. To be notified of future MRC funding opportunities, please sign up for email alerts of new funding opportunities, news, events and more.

Other FIC funding opportunities

Universities UK (UUK) maintain a ‘Gateway to international opportunities’ designed as a regularly updated depository of UK funding opportunities for international research collaboration and knowledge exchange.

There is also information about other FIC funding opportunities in the January 2019 UKRI press release and UK government press release. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of all FIC funding opportunities. Further FIC calls will be announced in due course.
