New research to tackle Covid's impact on mental health receives £2 million boost

Six new projects worth a total of £2 million will give a much-needed boost in support for research investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health.

Professor Fiona Watt, Executive Chair of the Medical Research Council, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to increase the incidence of mental health problems and may reduce access to mental health services. Mental health research is an area of long-term importance for the Medical Research Council, and we have funded these new studies to help us understand the mental health impact of the pandemic, who is most vulnerable, and how we can reduce the emergence of new, and exacerbation of existing, mental health issues over the coming months.”
