1 Oct 2019
Professor Rory Duncan will take up the role of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Director for Talent and Skills in November. Professor Duncan will be on secondment from Heriot-Watt University, where he is currently Senior Academic Lead for Strategy and Development and Co-Director of the Edinburgh super-resolution imaging consortium (ESRIC). Professor Duncan’s work spans many disciplines and has been published in leading biology, chemistry, engineering and physics journals. He holds multiple patents, has won awards for public engagement, and has many years of experience in nurturing young talent.
Professor Duncan said: “Joining UKRI at such an important time for the organisation and for the UK is a tremendous opportunity. I have seen, and share, the passion of talented UKRI colleagues for researcher development and I am excited to have the chance to shape strategies and careers across the amazing work that all the Research Councils support nationally. I am absolutely behind the UKRI vision and I believe firmly that its success relies on people, talent and skills.”
Professor Fiona Watt, MRC Executive Chair and UKRI lead on Talent and Skills, said “I am looking forward to working closely with Rory. It is hard to think of anyone else who has such breadth and depth of relevant expertise. His energy is infectious."
