Network Summer 2016: Chief Executive's comment
On 4 May we published our delivery plans setting out how we will use our allocation from the Science and Research Budget to support our strategic aims over the next four years (page 4 (PDF, 4.76MB)).
Research into lifelong mental health and dementia is one of our four priority challenges. I am delighted to welcome Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK as co-founders of the new UK Dementia Research Institute. Together we will lead UK dementia research efforts to search for new ways to prevent and cure dementia, as well as to improve the supportive care for people and families affected by dementia (page 3 (PDF, 4.76MB)).
We will transform health research and innovation, including accelerating the linkage of excellent UK-based research to our global health research. Over the next five years, the Research Councils, the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the National Academies will deliver the new Global Challenges Research Fund to ensure the excellent UK research base takes a leading role in addressing the problems faced by developing countries and to build resilience and tackle major world challenges (page 5) (PDF, 4.76MB).
By harnessing the expertise of researchers, in interdisciplinary relationships, we aim to continue supporting discovery science to help improve the social, economic and health outcomes for people in developing countries, as well as in the UK.
