UKCRC Tissue Directory
The UKCRC Tissue Directory is a free online register of the different types of human sample resources across the UK (biobank, cohort study, biorepository, clinical trial etc.). It is the only directory of its kind; covering all regions, sample types and disease areas.
Researchers can search over 400 tissue collections across 200 sample resources. Filters for gender, age and disease help identify relevant banked samples or resources that can acquire bespoke collections.
MRC funded sample collections are encouraged to make their collections visible on the UKCRC Tissue Directory. Please e mail or contact the Tissue Directory to discuss registering your sample collections. If you are a researcher who has used the Tissue Directory, feedback and users’ experiences to further improve the Directory are very welcome.
The MRC jointly funds the UKCRC Tissue Directory and Coordination Centre (UKCRC TDCC) which was set up to support research using UK-based human samples and data through the creation of the Tissue Directory. Through the UKCRC, the MRC works alongside the NHS, other research funders, industry, regulatory bodies, Royal Colleges, patient groups and academia to facilitate and promote high-quality clinical research across the UK for the benefit of patients.
The UKCRC TDCC works to help researchers discover human samples and data, help sample resources improve their data systems for sharing, and harmonise policy relating to the discovery and use of samples and data. As the UK node of BBMRI-ERIC, UKCRC TDCC also provides a gateway for biobanking in Europe.
