Working with industry
The MRC is committed to developing and sustaining close and productive collaborations with companies in the UK. If you are interested in sharing expertise, building successful research collaborations and making the most of ‘open careers’ between industry and academia, we offer a range ways to support a flexible career. These include:
-
MRC industrial CASE (Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) awards for PhD students to provide experience of collaborative research
-
Sponsorship of Biotechnology YES (Young Entrepreneurs Scheme), a competition to encourage entrepreneurial knowledge amongst early career researchers.
-
Support of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships to enable early career researchers to transfer knowledge between a company and an academic organisation
More information on how we support partnerships with industry and advice on successful partnerships can be found on our partnerships with industry pages.
Fellowships with industrial partnerships
New fellowship applicants
All fellowship applications may incorporate industry collaborations. Applications should be submitted to the relevant fellowship scheme and include an MRC Industry Collaboration Agreement (MICA) form and a Heads of Terms
Existing fellows
Beneficial opportunities for productive and innovative collaborations will often develop during a fellowship. Fellows have significant flexibility within their award to pursue new opportunities as they arise and we encourage fellows to develop and establish new collaborations with industry where this is beneficial to their research direction.
Getting advice
If you require guidance on how to make the most of a new industrial partnership or how to combine this with your fellowship proposal or existing fellowship, please get in touch with us at fellows@headoffice.mrc.ac.uk, and we will provide individually tailored advice.
